Why Leather Has Always Been Special
Leather has remained valuable for generations because it is strong, flexible, useful, and naturally beautiful.
Unlike many modern materials, genuine leather does not lose its charm with use. It softens, deepens in colour, and develops character over time.
A good leather product does not simply grow old.
It becomes personal.
Every mark, fold, and shade change becomes part of its journey with you.
What Is Leather In Its Real Form?
Leather is a natural material made from animal hide, transformed through tanning into something durable, flexible, and suitable for everyday use.
Because leather comes from nature, every hide is different.
You may notice:
Grain variations
Small wrinkles
Light marks
Shade differences
Natural pores
Texture changes
These are not defects.
They are signs of genuine leather.
They show that the material is real, not artificial.
Our Signature :
EL VEENU’s signature is Natural Veg-Tanned Full Grain Leather .
We source our leather from trusted Indian tanneries and select it carefully for durability, character, and long-term use.
Full Grain Leather uses the strongest and most natural upper layer of the hide. Its original grain is not heavily corrected or hidden under thick artificial coatings. This allows the leather’s natural texture, strength, and markings to remain visible.
Vegetable tanning gives the leather depth, strength, and ageing beauty.
Natural finishing allows the real character of the leather to stay alive. This is what gives EL VEENU leather its identity:
Full Grain strength, Vegetable-Tanned character, Natural Leather beauty, and timeless ageing.
Vegetable-Tanned Leather vs Natural Leather
This difference is important.
Vegetable tanning is a process.
Natural leather is a character and finishing experience.
Not every vegetable-tanned leather looks or ages the same. The final appearance depends on grain quality, colour, coating, finish, and surface treatment.
Some vegetable-tanned leathers may be heavily coloured, polished, corrected, or coated. They may still be vegetable-tanned, but their natural grain and raw character may not remain clearly visible.
What Is Vegetable-Tanned Leather?
Vegetable tanning is one of the oldest and most respected methods of tanning leather.
It uses natural tannins from plant-based sources such as tree bark, leaves, fruits, and other natural materials.
Compared to faster chemical processes, vegetable tanning takes more time. But this slower process helps the leather retain its natural strength, depth, and ageing beauty.
Vegetable-tanned leather is loved because:
It feels natural
It develops character
It looks premium
It ages beautifully
It becomes more personal with time
It is not a shortcut.
It is a process built on patience, skill, and quality.
What Is Full Grain Leather?
Full Grain Leather is one of the finest and most authentic forms of leather.
It comes from the strongest outer layer of the hide, where the original grain remains intact. The surface is not heavily sanded, buffed, or covered.
Because of this, Full Grain Leather is:
Strong
Durable
Natural-looking
Rich in texture
Better for long-term use
Beautiful with age
The beauty of Full Grain Leather is not in looking perfectly uniform. Its beauty is in looking authentic.
Why Every Product Looks Slightly Different
Natural leather is not a factory-made synthetic sheet.
That is why two products made in the same design may still look slightly different.
You may notice differences in:
Colour tone
Grain pattern
Small marks
Wrinkles
Texture
Softness or firmness
These natural variations are part of genuine leather’s identity.
At EL VEENU, we do not hide this individuality. We allow it to become part of the product’s character.
What Is Patina?
Patina is the natural beauty that leather develops with time.
As you use your leather product, the colour may become deeper, the surface may become smoother, and the leather may feel softer and more personal.
Patina develops through regular handling, sunlight, movement, and natural oils from your hands.
It cannot be created overnight.
It develops only when the product lives with you.
That is what turns a leather product from “a product” into “your product.”
What is the difference between Genuine Leather, PU/Faux Leather, and Vegan Leather?
Genuine leather is made from natural animal hide. It has a real grain, natural texture, breathability, strength, and the ability to develop a beautiful patina over time. Since leather is a natural material, every piece may have slight variations in colour, grain, and texture—making each product unique.
PU and faux leather are synthetic materials designed to imitate the appearance of real leather. They may look smooth and polished when new, but they do not age like natural leather. With regular use, the surface may crack, peel, or lose its original finish.
Vegan leather is a broad term used for leather alternatives that are not made from animal hide. Some types are made from synthetic materials, while others may use plant-based sources. Their quality and durability can vary, but most do not develop the same natural patina, depth, or long-term character as genuine leather.
| Comparison Point | Genuine Leather | PU / Faux Leather | Vegan Leather |
| Source | Natural animal hide | Synthetic materials | Synthetic or plant-based alternatives |
| Feel | Natural, soft, and textured | Smooth, flat, or plastic-like | Varies depending on the material |
| Appearance | Natural grain with unique variations | Mostly clean and uniform | Usually uniform; texture varies |
| Ageing | Develops a rich natural patina | May crack, peel, or fade | Usually does not develop a natural patina |
| Durability | Suitable for long-term use with proper care | Generally suitable for short-term use | Depends on material and construction |
| Breathability | Naturally breathable | Limited breathability | Usually limited, depending on the material |
| Character | Every piece is naturally unique | Mostly identical and uniform | Generally consistent and uniform |
| Maintenance | Requires basic leather care | Easy to clean but difficult to repair | Care requirements vary |
| Long-Term Value | Improves in character with age | Surface quality may reduce over time | Lifespan varies by material quality |
If you value durability, authenticity, and ageing beauty, genuine leather offers a much richer experience.
Full Grain vs Top Grain Leather
Both are real leather, but they are not the same.
Full Grain Leather
Full Grain Leather keeps the original grain surface intact. It preserves natural marks, texture, strength, and ageing character.
It is more authentic, more durable, and better suited for products that are made to last.
Top Grain Leather
Top Grain Leather also comes from the upper layer of the hide, but its surface is usually sanded or corrected to create a smoother and more uniform appearance.
The simple difference is:
Full Grain Leather preserves character.
Top Grain Leather creates a cleaner, more uniform surface. Why Jaisalmer Leather Craft Still Matters
Jaisalmer’s leather story is not only a part of the past.
It continues through the hands of artisans who have worked with leather for generations.
In earlier times, when high-tech machines were not available, leather products were made almost entirely by hand. Cutting, stitching, shaping, finishing, and detailing were all done with patience and skill.
Traditional mojris, jooties, covers, pouches, and leather accessories were made for real daily use in desert life.
Today, EL VEENU carries that same heritage forward through modern bags, wallets, duffels, backpacks, fanny bags, and accessories.
For us, leather is not just a material, It is a part of Jaisalmer’s craft identity.
