About El Veenu

Some things are worth making slowly.

El Veenu began in 1987, in Jaisalmer, before the golden fort became famous, before anyone thought of Rajasthan as a destination. In a small workshop on the edge of the desert, our founder Paras Ram Khatri was already doing something unusual: making leather goods by hand, from goat leather, using tanning methods passed down through villages for generations. No chemicals. No shortcuts. Just babool leaves, natural salts, and sunlight the same process that gave Rajasthani leather its reputation for being soft, strong, and alive with character. At a time when buffalo and cow leather dominated global markets, he chose goat leather lighter, more flexible, full of natural grain. Nobody was working with it seriously. He built a market for it anyway. Within a decade, his bags were quietly making their way to Europe, carried home by travellers who recognised something rare when they held it. For over 35 years, El Veenu has been making leather goods that last.

Our Story

What we make, and how

Every El Veenu product is made in small batches, by craftsmen from Rajasthan who have spent years, sometimes their entire lives, working with leather. There are no factory lines. No machines doing the finishing. Each bag is cut, stitched, and polished by hand, using tools that have been part of our workshop since the beginning.

We use full-grain goat leather, vegetable-tanned the traditional way. Because of this, no two pieces are identical. The natural marks and grain variations you'll find on every product aren't imperfections, they're proof that a real hide was used, and real hands shaped it. Leather made this way doesn't stay the same. It ages. It softens. It takes on the shape and story of the person who uses it.

Bringing it home

For most of our history, El Veenu's work travelled outward to collectors and customers in Europe who understood what handmade meant. Today, we're building the Indian chapter of that story.

Indian craft deserves Indian buyers who choose it with intention. Not because it's affordable, but because it's better, made with more care, more skill, and more history than anything a factory could produce at scale.

This is the work our family has done for nearly four decades. We're not starting from scratch. We're finally bringing it home.

The Craftsmanship

A few things we believe

Behind every El Veenu bag is a craftsman who pours skill, care, and years of experience into every stitch. We combine traditional techniques with modern functionality to create pieces you’ll be proud to carry—every day, everywhere.

  • Full-grain leather, never corrected or coated to hide its character
  • Small batches, so every piece gets the attention it deserves
  • Vegetable tanning, because the old methods produce better leather
